Prep4CNA is a multilingual (currently English + Haitian Creole) study app for Nursing Assistant exam prep. This page explains, in plain language, what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have — for every person who installs it, whether or not you ever create a leaderboard nickname.
Prep4CNA is an independent study and practice tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or a representative of any government agency, state Board of Nursing, state Department of Health, or official CNA certification body. CNA certification exams are administered under the federally mandated Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP); official program information is available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). For official exam registration and your state's specific requirements, contact your state's Board of Nursing or Department of Health directly.
This policy covers the Prep4CNA mobile app, available on iOS and Android, and applies to everyone who installs it. It does not cover any other app, website, or service.
As you use the app, your answers to quiz questions, your accuracy, your daily streak, and your Exam Simulator results are saved in local storage on your phone. This information never leaves your device unless you choose to join the leaderboard (see 2.3).
The app assigns your device a random, anonymous identifier (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication) the first time it needs one. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information, and there is no sign-in screen — it happens automatically in the background. It exists so that, if you join the leaderboard, your device can update its own score without anyone else being able to update it for you.
Joining the leaderboard is optional and requires one deliberate action: picking a nickname. If you do, the following becomes visible to anyone using the app:
| What's shared | Example | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Your chosen nickname | "QuizWhiz23" | Anyone using the app |
| Total correct answers | 142 | Anyone using the app |
| Total questions answered | 160 | Anyone using the app |
| Longest daily streak | 18 days | Anyone using the app |
Your individual quiz answers, which questions you got right or wrong, and your device identifier are never shown on the leaderboard — only the aggregate numbers above.
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how the app is actually used — which screens people visit, how long a typical session lasts, and which features get used most. This happens automatically for every install; there's currently no in-app toggle to turn it off. It's tied to an anonymous per-install identifier, separate from the one described in Section 2.2, and is never linked to a name, email, or any other information that could identify you.
This analytics collection does not include an advertising identifier (Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID) — we've specifically configured it not to. No ads are shown in the app, and this data is not used for advertising, ad personalization, or shared onward with anyone for their own purposes.
Notifications are off until you turn them on from Profile → Notifications, and your phone's own permission prompt appears first. If you do turn them on, Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your phone a push registration token so a message can reach it, and your phone is subscribed to a single shared "announcements" topic — so everyone who opts in receives the same messages (for example, a new app version or important CNA exam news). We don't store this token in our own database, we don't keep a list of who has notifications on, and we can't send a message to one particular person. Notifications are delivered through Apple's and Google's own push services. You can turn them off any time from Profile → Notifications or in your phone's settings.
The Jobs tab shows recent CNA job listings supplied by Adzuna (adzuna.com). Our own systems collect the listings and store them in our database; your phone only reads them, so nothing about you is sent to Adzuna to get them. The state you pick, the jobs you save, and the lists you've recently viewed are kept on your device. Picking a state is just a choice from a list — the app never reads your location.
Two things do involve other companies directly:
Prep4CNA does not employ, and cannot vouch for, the employers in these listings. Never pay anyone to apply for a job, to be hired, or for training or equipment — a real employer will not ask you to.
Each listing has a Report link. It opens your own email app with a message to us, pre-filled with the listing's ID, title, employer, place and link. The message is sent from your email account, so we receive your email address and anything you choose to add. We use it only to review the listing and, if needed, reply to you.
The app does not collect, request, or have access to:
We do collect basic, anonymous usage analytics — see Section 2.4 for exactly what that includes and why it's separate from everything else on this list. If you send us an email to report a job listing (Section 2.7), we receive the email address you send it from.
The limited information described in Section 2 is used only to:
Leaderboard entries can currently only be removed by contacting us directly — there isn't yet a self-service delete button inside the app for a leaderboard entry specifically (local progress reset is instant and self-service, per above). We process removal requests promptly.
Local progress is retained on your device until you reset it or uninstall the app. Saved jobs, your chosen state and recently viewed job lists stay on your device until you remove them or uninstall the app. Leaderboard entries are retained until you request removal (Section 6) or the leaderboard feature is discontinued. Emails you send to report a job listing are kept only as long as needed to review the listing.
Prep4CNA is designed for adults preparing for professional exam prep and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Leaderboard data is protected by access rules that only allow a device to write its own entry, verified through the anonymous identifier described in Section 2.2 — no one can edit or impersonate another person's score. Quiz content and job listings are readable by the app but not editable by it. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we don't collect anything more sensitive than a self-chosen nickname and a score.
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. If a future change meaningfully expands what we collect, we'll also note it in the app's release notes.
